July Fire Hydrant Flushing and Exercise Program
Posted Wednesday, June 14th 2017

Beginning in July the Franklinville Department of Public Works will start flushing and exercising fire hydrants.  Work will start at the South Well House on Pennsylvania Avenue and continue north until completed. Currently there are 78 hydrants in the village.

Flushing and Exercising provides the following benefits:

  • Provides for inspection, lubrication, and possible repair of the hydrant
  • Removes the thin film of rust and harmless microbes on the inside of the pipes
  • Reliable fire protection for the public

When hydrant flushing takes place near your home, you may experience slight water discoloration. Please check the color of the water before washing clothes.  If you notice discoloration, simply run cold water (cold only) until the water clears up. We will post another update when this process has been completed.

If you have any questions, please call the Department of Public Works at 716-676-5703 Monday thru Friday 7:00am-3:30pm.
